What Is Invisalign
Invisalign takes a modern approach to straightening teeth, using a custom-made series of clear aligners created for you and only you.
These aligner trays are made of smooth, comfortable and virtually invisible plastic that you wear over your teeth like a mouthguard or bleach tray. Wearing the aligners will gradually and gently shift your teeth into place so you can achieve the smile you’ve always wanted.
Invisalign is an aesthetically appealing orthodontic option for many people who don’t want the “train-track” look often associated with traditional braces – that’s right no metal brackets to attach and no wires to tighten. Which makes Invisalign comfortable and minimises your orthodontic emergencies during treatment. You just pop in a new set of aligners approximately every two weeks until your treatment is complete. You’ll achieve a great smile with little interference in your daily life. The best part about the whole process is that most people won’t even know you’re straightening your teeth.
The best way to get all the information is to book a consultation at pennant hills dental centre with Dr Tirza Harley. She will assess your suitability and which Invisalign is right for you. Book your consultation now by phoning 9484 1132 or book online.
The Advantages Of Invisalign Treatment?
- One of the main reasons so many patients prefer Invisalign is because it’s a discreet orthodontic treatment option that doesn’t interfere with your lifestyle. You can now attend functions and events in confidence. Invisalign aligners are virtually invisible, so very few people would notice you’re even having your teeth straightened.
- Invisalign is a comfortable and less bulky orthodontic treatment option.
- Invisalign aligners are perfect for an active lifestyle, without the need for metal brackets and wires patients experience minimal cuts and ulcers in their mouth.
- Invisalign aligners are removable. This means aligners can be taken out for eating, easier brushing and flossing, as well as for important personal and professional occasions, such as client meetings, presentations, family events and wedding photos.
- Invisalign is perfect for patients who have had orthodontic treatment in the past but their teeth have moved and they are looking to regain their straight smile.
- With doctor visits only approximately every 6-8weeks. Invisalign aligners are ideal even for a busy lifestyle, allowing you to spend more time doing the things you love.
How Does The Invisalign System Work?
Using a series of aligners, Invisalign applies consistent, controlled force to each tooth, gently moving them into their new position. Invisalign differs from traditional braces in that it actually controls the amount of force applied to each tooth and this can reduce the length of the treatment in comparison with traditional orthodontics.
During your initial consultation, Dr Tirza Harley will explore your concerns and goals to determine if Invisalign is the appropriate treatment for you. Should this be the case, Dr Tirza Harley will then take detailed impressions of your teeth and bite to create a computerised 3d image of your smile. This will help determine the precise movements needed to create the best results. Once the computerised image has been created a virtual treatment outcome can be made so you can see what kind of result can be achieved. It’s at this point we can also see how many aligners are required and thus the length of time treatment will take. The length of your Invisalign treatment depends on the severity of your bite abnormality and how much correction is needed, but on average the treatment takes 12 to 18 months.
Living With Invisalign
During your treatment, you will wear each aligner a minimum of 22 hours per day for around two weeks, removing the aligners only for eating and cleaning your teeth. If worn for less than 22 hours per day, you’ll need to wear the aligners over a longer period to compensate, thus increasing the length of your treatment. After two weeks, you will then switch to the next aligner which, will move your teeth a little more.
We will ask you to come in for a check-up every 6-8 weeks so that we can monitor your progress and provide you with your next set of aligners. Throughout your treatment, you should notice small movements as the invisible braces gradually move your teeth to create an even, healthy and very attractive smile.
Wearing the Invisalign aligners is generally far more comfortable than wearing traditional braces. Minor discomfort may be experienced initially and for a few days every time a new aligner is used. This slight feeling of pressure is a sign aligners are doing their job and moving the teeth into the desired position. Any discomfort is usually relieved in a few days.
The effectiveness of Invisalign is dependent on patient compliance. It is up to you to make sure you wear your aligners for the specified amount of time, so the treatment is not particularly suited to patients without the necessary personal discipline. On completion of your Invisalign treatment you will need retainers to ensure that your teeth do not move out of place.
Caring For Your Invisalign
With fewer nooks and crevices for bacteria to hide in, Invisalign is more hygienic than traditional braces. The convenience of being able to remove the aligners means you will find it easier to keep your teeth and gums clean. We recommend that you clean your aligners, using cold water and a toothbrush (without toothpaste), before each insertion.
Soaking aligners in cool water and white vinegar will remove any stains or debris. Rinse them thoroughly in cold water before reinserting. Do not use warm or hot water, this may distort the aligners. When taking your aligners out to eat or drink, remember to store them in the protective box provided to stop them getting dirty. Avoid placing them in tissues or your pockets; otherwise you might accidentally damage or discard them.
