Treatment options
Traditional braces have come a long way in the last few decades and remain a popular choice for correcting orthodontic issues. At Pennant Hills Dental Centre, we offer a comprehensive range of orthodontic treatments, including Invisalign, conventional metal braces, as well as a more discrete option, Clear Damon Braces. Alongside top quality products, we also deliver exceptional dental care and results that will have you smiling.
Conventional metal braces
Conventional braces involve the use of metal brackets that we bond to the front surface of each tooth. We then anchor them together using archwire comprising shape memory, enabling the gentle application of pressure throughout the orthodontic treatment. The archwire is secured in place by small looped elastics (o-rings), which come in a range of fun colours. Patients typically wear conventional metal braces for 18 to 24 months depending on their specific case. Despite having several options for orthodontic treatment thanks to modern dentistry, conventional braces continue to be a popular and effective choice, especially for complex orthodontic cases.
Damon braces
The Damon system offers a gentle system that makes use of delicate forces that look after the health of your teeth and gums while effectively treating your orthodontic issue. It delivers proven natural-looking results while offering enhanced comfort, easier maintenance and, sometimes, faster results than conventional braces can deliver. You can choose between metal and clear brackets when undergoing this orthodontic treatment. The clear brackets provided a discrete aesthetic. The Damon system also doesn’t use elastics, making these braces even more unnoticeable in your mouth.

When should I start talking to my dentist about braces for my child?
Our dentists recommend that your child have their first orthodontic check-up at the age of 7. At Pennant Hills Dental Centre we can often spot subtle problems with jaw growth and emerging teeth while some baby teeth are still present. Early intervention may prevent or intercept more serious problems from developing. In some cases, we can achieve results that may not be possible once the face and jaws have finished growing.
Early orthodontic treatment may give us the chance to:
- Develop arches to allow an uncomplicated eruption of permanent teeth
- Guide jaw growth
- Lower the risk of trauma to protruded front teeth
- Correct harmful oral habits
- Improve appearance which may have social implications for your child
- Guide permanent teeth into a more favourable position
- Create a more pleasing arrangement of teeth, lips and face
Through an early orthodontic evaluation, you can give your child the best opportunity to have a healthy, beautiful smile for life.
If your child is older than 7, it’s certainly not too late for a check-up! We love seeing people of all ages at Pennant Hills Dental Centre. Because patients differ in both physiological development and treatment needs, our goal is to provide each patient with the most appropriate treatment at the most appropriate time.
